Experiential Healing | This is the phrase that describes my practice, counseling, coaching, and teaching endeavors. It is also the essence of my partner group, Experiential Healing, LLC with Heather Spreadborough, LMHC; Sage Ann Espitia, LMHC, NCC. This person-centered and trauma-informed process gives people the stamina to gradually approach their experiences of self and others with gentle acceptance and the vibrant energy needed to change.
Experiential Healing allows individuals to tap into, understand, and eventually sit with their own remarkable engines of change: courage, strength, and energy. It then applies behavioral, cognitive, and emotional regulation practice in order to harness and activate these motor elements of change.
Experiential Healing is fueled by traditional and evidence-based mental health treatments:
— Observing and describing one’s experience, realities without bias or distortion
— Understanding that anxiety, stress, discomfort and anger are designed to help you change.
— Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
— Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
— Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
— Psychodynamic
— Neuro Linguistic Programming
— Mindfulness
— Motivational Interviewing
— Internal Family Systems
Experiential Healing reveals the actual purpose of thoughts or behaviors, and helps individuals realize that that ALL emotions are necessary signals, signals that give individuals specific direction on how to APPROACH experiences — not to avoid them.
My style is direct | It is designed to help the client understand that the problem is often not the problem. It draws a gentle straight line to the experiential core, the epicenter of all maladaptive coping. I work with individuals, couples, and families to piece together how they were trained or how they trained themselves to respond, defend, and survive against the core. Then we begin new training. Instead of training to survive… training to thrive.
Thriving in many endeavors of life | Intimate relationships, professional success; the reduction of mental health symptoms, managing mood swings, increasing focus, veering away from life-threatening thoughts and actions, moving towards value-based outcomes, using anger as energy directed at effective, urgent problem solving, and turning away from obsessions and addictions towards mindful participation of one’s own life.
